Today, March 25, 2013 marks the International Day of the Unborn Child, which celebrates the journey of life that every human being makes through each stage of development, from conception to birth. It is a time to champion human dignity and remember the injustice of abortion.

Begun initially by Pope John Paul II to coincide with the Feast of Annunciation, the International Day of the Unborn Child is now celebrated across the globe by pro-life countries. In 1993, El Salvador established the “Day of the Right to Be Born.” Other countries have subsequently established similar celebrations, such as Argentina’s "Day of the Unborn,” Chile’s with "Day of the Conceived and Unborn," Guatemala's "National Day of the Unborn." Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Peru, the Philippines, the Dominican Republic and Paraguay are all nations that now celebrate a day for the unborn child.

On this year’s International Day of the Unborn Child, we celebrate the advances in in-utero surgery, neo-natal intensive care, fetal heart monitoring, and 4D Ultrasounds which give doctors and parents precious glimpses of the child in the womb. See the amazing video by a Yale scientist, visualizing fetal development from conception to birth:

We also recall the injustice of abortion and call for its end everywhere in every circumstance.

How will you celebrate the International Day of the Unborn Child?
